THE NATURE OF COMMUNICATION

Communication falls into different categories.

1) Verbal or Para-lingual(pitch and tone)
2) Non-verbal (Body Language)and
3) Feedback.(clarifying the understanding)

Communication also has 3 components

1) Sender (one who talks)
2) Receiver and (one who listens)
3) Medium of communication (media i.e Air, phone, mobile..etc,)

In this posting I am closely looking at Verbal or Para lingual communication. Verbal communication is an Interaction between two persons or between group of people. If one person talks (sender), another person (receiver)should listen, only then we can understand what the other person is trying to explain. Communication is expressing yourself in words. There is a saying which goes like "Communicate to Express and NOT to Impress". Communicating is to ensure that one gets the idea/message across to the receivers end. Communication is about Sender and Receiver being in the same level of understanding, see the same picture.

Communication is the only verbal medium to make others understand. For example when a baby cries, mother understands that baby has need, i.e, hunger or needs attention, that is the baby’s way of communication. Each person has his/ her own style of communicating. We have different set of people with different Accents and different languages. Communication is a mix of pitch and tone of voice and words. When we start speaking our tone is identified on spot.

At different circumstances and time every person react in different tones. For singers we say some singer has a melodious voice , some have metallic voice, few have sexy voice and some horrible voice. That’s basically the tone of voice. The tone of voice is very important in life whether you are singing or just speaking.

Tone of voice is an approach with feelings to the other person. From your tone of voice you will be able to recognise person mood types - angry tone, happy tone, sad tone, jealousy tone, flattery tone, liar tone. That’s why elders teach kids to be polite when they speak to others. So that they follow to be polite in future.

Basic quality, mannerism and culture of a person starts from the way you communicate to anyone and everyone irrespective of what you are. You may be a very famous person who cares - If you do not have basic polite communication skill, you are nothing. Now take any industry without proper communication skill you cannot proceed in any area at all…........thats for sure.

In Hospitality Industry or any other Service Industry this communication skill is most important because the job involves first Interaction and latter Service. We all have seen our Politicians, Models, Film actor and actress,Singers,Dancers,Sports stars, Scientists, Doctors etc. speaking at various occasions. This is communication skill. People are interested to listen to their speech. Thats because the way they speak. We have come across famous Public speakers, Industrialist, Business people-their influence level is high by motivating others. Why? That’s very simple . They all followed A-Z OF LIFE’S basic steps in life to be successful. One among them is communication skill.

PERSONS APPROACH IS COMMUNICATION, SO BE POLITE WHEN YOU SPEAK TO ANYONE.
